cool quotes

sausage tree flowers

In the absence of a new blog post here are some lovely quotes that i have stumbled over during the past week. I hope you enjoy them.

It is time to develop a big ‘US’, rather than the old ‘us and them’ that lets us to exploit and bully others on a personal level, and on an international level to wage war. The East must see the West as part of ‘US’ and the North must come to feel that the South is part of ‘US’. We should include the entire world in our concern, wishing all humanity well. If we can do that there will be no room for hatred, thinking of others as enemies. And we will achieve this through education, not through prayer.
Dalai Lama (fb)

Love is the ultimate healer, a force that is stronger than an individual. All the loves in the world are like different rivers flowing into the same lake, where they meet and are transformed into a single love that becomes rain and blesses the earth.
Paolo Coelho (fb)

"That we close down is not a problem. In fact, to become aware of when we do so is an important part of the training. The first step in cultivating loving-kindness is to see when we are erecting barriers between ourselves and others. Unless we understand-in a non-judgmental way-that we are hardening our hearts, there is no possibility of dissolving that armour. Without dissolving the armour, the loving-kindness of bodhicitta is always held back. We are always obstructing our innate capacity to love without an agenda." ~Pema Chodron

When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world.  John Muir

Steve Jobs quote will always stay with me.....love the others too...but Jobs has been committed to memory....

All of them, wise and wonderful. And quite unrealistic.

We have to change ourselves and all of mankind to come anywhere near these ideal states. I can't see it happen in my lifetime.

Greed is God.

I am just reading the book: Autobiography of a Yogi, by, wait:
Paramahansa Yogananda.
It is filled with casual quotes like those you mentioned. Some people have understood what Life is really all about, and it makes me happy that they exist. One can become a cynic too easily, but to give love a chance is not impossible, for each of us. And it sure makes our lives happier, so why not dare it?

Great quotes, and much to ponder on. (Also love the Steve Jobs quote on your sidebar. May he rest in peace.)

Friko - maybe unrealistic, but you have to cling on to these ideals? Myself, I have to have them - at least in some corner of my heart and mind - to preserve my very sanity.

Hi Val. These are beautiful, and it is good to read and remember what we can aspire to. Maybe it's unrealistic to expect to change the entire world, but whoever is touched by these words can make a difference in some small way, despite the chaos around us, or that is what I believe - I just cannot give up hope altogether!

not much luck answering your comments so far - sorry for the delays!

Miranda - glad you like them too. They seem so pertinent to where we are right now eh?

Amanda - and thanks for all your wise words too!

wooo it seems to be working! on on

Mermaid Gallery - and I never knew about this wisdom until now. how sad is that? i should have guessed though.

Friko - i think reality is composed of the entire spectrum of which positive, wise and learned attitudes are a large part. I think we should be prepared to acknowledge and accept it all.

Lori - have a wonderful week :)

Geli - thank heavens we have wise and enlightened beings in our midst! and yes the evidence is all there that compassion is the way forward. Guess we still have some growing to do?

Solitary Walker - I definitely need this kind of reminder; i think it gives us balance on the stony paths?

Karen - exactly - the last thing you learn apparently is your effect; and every small gesture adds up.They are lifelines for ourselves and who knows who else?

xxxV thanks for visiting the Roof!

Lovely quotes all. My favorite is the John Muir quote and more and more we are finding it to be true. If only more people would have this wisdom.
