LOVE the markets, but am always afraid at these, it can be difficult to extricate yourself!

I so miss open air markets! Lovely photos, Val.

mermaid - i tried to leave a comment on your last but connections been so bad lately. might try again now - insomnia hours seem easier :)
that piri piri is really good!

Miranda - me too and a great way to spend a long road trip :)

Lori Ann - this market looks particularly vibrant and a bit like a souk inside - i think you could get lost in there without a guide!

e - yes the sunlight just makes it look so much more attractive. If you like loud music you would love this one!

thanks guys xxxV

We have markets too, but the noise level of the colours is nothing compared to yours.

Wonderful pictures, I can almost smell the heat and the aroma of the fruit and spices.

Hi Val! great photos.. it is amazing how colourful and enterprising all these stalls can be. Just love the piri piri vendors - particularly the signs!!

Your Mozambique idyll sounded lovely, and I also really enjoyed the word pic of Bon Arrivee Cafe in Maun - perfectly depicted!!

Thanks for sharing photos on the colorful life in Mozambique. Looks very peaceful and alive.

Lovely memories of these typical street scenes.
I haven't had that wonderful peri-peri in many years.
Thanks for sharing your trips and stories, Val.

karen - great - you are back! always amazes me how area specific each product is - piri piri here, baskets there, ceramic pots there.

ah yes, spent a bit of time at Bon Arrivee!!

lgsquirrel - yes mozambique is pretty calm and friendly overall. Early explorers called it 'land of the good people' or Terra de Boa Gente (sp?)

Charl - that piri piri is really good! you think a bottle will last a lifetime but it really doesnt :)

thank you guys xxV

What exactly is piri-piri? These colours and scenes and noises (yes, I can hear them!) almost make me drunk. Fabulous, Val, and so so SO different from our orderly German fruit markets. Must take photos from here!

Very colorful. I enjoyed the visit although I'd like to have bought something. One of those baskets, I think.

Love the photos, so quintessential Mozambique!

Val said...

Dear Geli - piri piri is hot sauce made from those small really hot chillies - also called Donna Anna in mozambique; its famous

Midlife Jobhunter - those baskets are great and very well made. I have some and use them all the time

Lauri - yes indeed. So good to hear about your Writing event in Maun - glad it all went so well!

hope you are all having a good weekend wherever you are xxxV

Street-side markets are fun. Some of these scenes would not be out of place back here in India.
